San Francisco Escapade

So while I was away at school I forgot about two of my major high school age loves: The Maine & live music. So when I decided to venture into the ultimate mix of both realms again last Tuesday & drag my little 14 year old sister along for her first concert experience at The Fillmore, I was more than excited. It would be a night of The Maine(aka John O'Callaghan's amazingness), Augustana & Austin Gibbs. While I was going 100% for The Maine, I also completely loved by the other bands as well. What I wasn’t expecting however, was some of the craziness & weird events to occur throughout the night. But I mean, it was San Francisco, anything could happen there right?

First: there was a Giants game the same night. In the same town. Off the same exit. At generally the same time. Awesome. Cool traffic everybody! But don’t worry, my mom knew to get off at another exit & find our way from there since we were already running late (Stresser #1). we don’t have a GPS. & my phone was dying, & my mom’s was being spastic, so we were stuck with the printed off non-interactive mapquest maps to kind of make up a new route off of. Bad idea in a town full of one way streets.

Second: We finally we get to the right street but it was super busy & one way, but the map I had on top said it was only a teeny bit down the opposite direction of traffic so we hopped on out! Ohh, it was 1805, not 1085?! Seven block run/walk/mad dash ensues (Stresser #2). While avoiding homeless people, druggies, possible muggers/rapists/etc. (Stresser #3-15) . Sorry Emma but sometimes SF sucks.

Third: I FORGOT MY CAMERA (Stresser #16). Made my mom bring it to me, more craziness & confusion to follow, but I finally get it, but we STILL can’t find the dang building. 10 minutes later with a bit of help from a few crazy black women with no teeth & reeking of drugs & urine, we find it only half hour late! Of course it was hiding behind that huge bus! Silly us for not guessing that the first time.

Fourth: I forget that The Maine’s concerts are full of annoying whining girls that expect everyone to not touch, people to be nice & courteous, and for everyone in the world to make them happy. I know I’m kind of a beezy at concerts (not that I’m particularly proud of everything I’ve done), but little Marissa was killin’ everyone! She started out the night pushing her way through, knocking girls out of her line of view, & generally fitting right in the concert scene! Haha Proud of that little sister of mine!

Fifth [& Final]: The Maine had us all sit down. Every single human in the entire crowd, I don’t know how many people were there but it was quiteee a few. First time I have EVER seen this at a general admission concert with this many people. It was insane, & so chill. Not only that, but they had songs where all 3 bands would come out & sing together & just joke around. They are not only great musicians, but amazing people as well & close friends. It was all so cool to see on stage.

Overall, it was an awesome night. The only thing that could have made it more memorable would have been meeting The Maine, mostly since my sister hasn’t even though I have twice. Needless to say, I’ll be attending plenty more concerts this summer & hopefully this fall. Next on my agenda: WARPED TOUR!
